Dimensional Flowers

These Flowers are 3D but you don’t need any special glasses to see the 3rd dimension. If you are a scrapbooker you might find yourself stuck in two dimension, limited by the need to keep the page flat.  The fabulous flowers shown in this tutorial may entice you to expand your projects to include home décor, gifts and card making.

Packages of petals to make similar flowers are available in craft stores and on-line sites. But if you are like me, the Inspiration for an idea doesn’t happen in advance.  I hate waiting to get what I need and I certainly don’t need to waste time and money on a fruitless search. Even if I do buy the petals it seems that they never “quite” match what I am working on, unless I want to buy the whole line of papers intended to go with the flowers.

That’s when the magic of the Inspiration cutting system saves my day. You can make your own dimensional flowers in exactly the color and size you need. To start, use a flower found in the Inspiration Studio Software or in the Image library here in the Craft Room.  I recommend you look for a flower that has distinct petals with a definite space between them. (Once you understand the process you can try other types of petals.) Create several layers of petals in graduating sizes by using the Condense function. Choose the perfect paper and cut them out.

Chalk, ink or add sparkle to the petals. Then use an embosser or other rounded tool and rub each petal to create a beautiful curl. Glue together, add leaves and admire. Making the flowers is very addicting. Once I made the first flower I had to see what other flowers I could create. That’s a bonus for Craft Room members because I am sharing them all with you. Watch the video to see how they are made, download the cutting files and start creating. Bet you can’t make just one!!

Great video Chris..thank you. I had no idea how much you could curl paper until I saw this video. I have always tried to curl the petals around a skewer..this makes it so much easier! I am also thinking that this technique would be nice on butterfly wings. I can’t wait to try it now!

LOVE the flowers and want to make but when I click on Download I get a screen of random letters and junk. Is it just me?
