Create a Collector’s Album Using Craft Room Cutting Files

Open Junk Journal

Last week in my Just Chatting blog, I talked about my upcoming trip to Israel. I mentioned that I was a great collector of memorabilia but that I rarely had time to scrap after I go home. This time I want to scrap-on-the-go using some sort of collector’s album or junk journal. Many of you commented on the blog and I have some really great ideas! Thank you!

After looking at all of the ready-made albums, I decided that I needed to make my own. There just did not seem to be anything that really suited my needs. The page designs and topics were not fitting for a trip as momentous as this one.

First, I knew that I would want to protect my photos. I am not likely to glue them straight to an unprotected page. So, I did some research and settled on a pocket page that would hold two 4″ x 6″ photos. Once that was decided, I knew that the dimensions of my book were dictated by the page protector size. Next, I browsed through the Craft Room library and found quite a few cutting files that I thought would make great accents in my album. My plan was to pre-cut a lot of different pieces and take them along. I found frames, tags, pockets and banners that could be adapted to my album theme.

The biggest find though, was a set of recipe and file dividers. They came in four different sizes (6×6″, 12×12″, 5×3.5″, and 5.5×8.5″) and when I saw them, I knew I had found the perfect component for my album pages. I used them as the building blocks of my album and I am so happy with the results! In today’s video I am going to give you a tour of my album. I will also share a few travel tips I learned from the blog comments as well as a few of my own.

Then next week, my video will show you how I used the index dividers to build my album. So be sure to check back to see how it is done. I have some great tricks to get the ring holes aligned no matter what piece you make.

Enjoy!
~Christine

I love this….I think this is what I am going to do for my trip to England in May. Might make one for my niece, sister and mom as well for them to keep things in.
What a great idea. Thank you so much

that is a great idea, good for on the slower days when you need time off for a day in your travels to unwind from all the site seeing.

You’ve got some wonderful ideas here Chris. It’s really helpful to be able to see what you’ve done with all the ideas from your blog too. Have so much fun in Israel enjoying all the history. I’m sure it will be very touching and a once in a lifetime trip. I’ll look forward to seeing this all come together when you come back. How inspiring!!!

what a great idea. Wish I would have done this for my cruise. I did start to take pictures of brochures or signs as soon as I went somewhere whith the name of where we were first so I would know what the pictures were of. Because they are digital they can then get sorted in date and time order. Helped so much. It was easier to take a picture for me instead of searching for a pen. My daughter kept notes on her phone. Love technology. I will keep this in mind for my next big trip. I am always looking for little extras to embellish my pages, napkins etc. This would be a great way to keep them along with notes.

Christine, I could only get a deep green screen to watch the album video. I heard your voice, and that was all. What can I do from this side to watch the video. It sounds reall good. Kay Adkisson

    Suzie-
The pages are actually 7.5 x 9.5 to accomodate the Prima photo sleeves that hold two 4×6 photos. Watch the blog tomorrow for more info on Chris’ Collector’s Album.

    Kay-
Have you updated your Quicktime software? A lot of the time when customers are unable to watch videos it is beacuse their video viewing software is not up to date. I hope that helps!
