From vinyl to iron-on, this Halloween we will be showcasing how to make boutique worthy projects with your Pazzles Creative Cutter and some of the specialty media we offer.
I may have mentioned this before, but I really love the Halloween holiday. Every year I throw a huge Halloween bash for my extended family and I try to out do myself each year. As part of that quest, I wanted some new Halloween vinyl signs to decorate with. I’ve been seeing these all over craft websites and at local craft stores and I knew they would be easy to make.
I’ve designed three different signs for you to cut from vinyl and apply to a piece of wood. These are easy to make, but I do have just a few tips.
- I designed these to fit a piece of wood that is 1 foot wide, but as we discovered, the sizes at the lumber store are not exact. Measure your wood and re-size the image using the condense function if needed.
- We sell two kinds of vinyl; regular vinyl and wall vinyl. I used regular vinyl for this project, with one exception, as it has a more permanent application than the wall vinyl. I chose to use wall vinyl for the word toad because I liked the wall vinyl shade of green best. Watch the Cutting Vinyl Video for tips on applying vinyl to your projects.
- I painted my signs three different ways. The orange sign began with a layer of Flesh Tone Deco Art Gloss Enamels. I then used a mixture of brown, red, and orange Deco Art Glass Stain, which is transparent, to give it a streaked orange look. I finished it off by dry brushing a layer of white enamel over the top and wiping it off before it dried. For the gray and black sign I first painted a layer of black and then dry brushed on a layer of gray. The all black sign was simply painted with black enamel paint.

Oh – how I wish I had this sign when I was teaching…. the little kids in the neighborhood will just not appreciate it! Have I told you that Halloween is my MOST favorite holiday?!
