Around this time of year I always feel so tired of winter and so ready for spring. It is still cold here and there are no signs of spring yet. To combat the winter doldrums I decided to add a little spring inside my office with a colorful paper mobile. The Flower Box Collection by Doodlebug Design Inc. features the prettiest bright hues and springy images and makes this project stand out. I’ll hang the mobile from my office ceiling and celebrate spring inside until the weather cooperates and spring comes to Idaho.
The cutting files for this project are all existing files in the Craft Room. I used the Kite and Tail and the Dimensional Bow files from this week’s New Section. The cloud and sunshine images are both from the Cloud and Sunshine Border which is located in the Decorative > Borders and Ribbons section. The scallop circle was simply drawn in the software.
Although this is not a complete project tutorial, I have provided a WPC cutting file for this complete project. The cutting file includes all of the pieces you need gathered into one location and re-sized to work together. Craft Room members can access the file below.
I began the project by cutting the pieces I needed from the Doodlebug patterned papers and then placing them on a white cardstock mat. Each piece is double-sided so that there is no ‘back side’ to a piece.
I cut the scallop circle out of two layers of chipboard and added a piece of patterned paper on each side. Sandwiched between the two layers of chipboard are a few popsicle sticks for durability and some foam mounting tape for dimension. I love that the Pazzles Inspiration will cut chipboard and a matching patterned paper layer so there is no tracing and hand cutting required.
The individual images dangle by thread or Doodle Twine from the top scallop circle. I simply taped the tops of my thread pieces between the layers of chipboard to hold the images.
Our friends at Doodlebug were so kind as to donate a Flower Box kit for us to give away to you! Included are: 10 sheets of double-sided cardstock, washi tape, two Doodle Pops, two Mini Doodle Pops, Mini Pearls, and Mini Flowers! You’ll have enough to make our mobile, and plenty left over for some other projects.
