The 4th of July has always been one of my favorites. Getting together with family and friends, good food, and fireworks make this USA holiday one of the best. It also doesn’t hurt that my birthday is the day before and my dad’s is the day after, so as a kid the celebrations stretched on and on and there was always lots of cake!
It’s so fun to decorate for this holiday and fairly easy as well. The years we host family I like to create a little patriotic ambiance with over the top red, white, and blue decorations. I generally don’t spend much money to do so, since I shop my house and use cheap candy and printables. Walk through your house and find all of the red, white, and blue items you can. Group them on your fireplace mantel or a display table. Add to your display with mason jars of red, white, and blue candy. There are so many cool patriotic images in the Craft Room Library that you can create printable pages from. Find a patriotic quote and type it out in a cool font, then add a few cute images. Create this all on an 8.5 x 11 mat and then simply hit print and add it to your display.
Today I have the finishing touch for your display. Use the elements in today’s files to create a patriotic banner. You can mix and match the pieces onto one big banner, or create a few smaller banners and layer them. For my banner I made a few smaller banners to layer. To create the patriotic star garland I cut stars and glued them back to back with twine in between the layers. For the rest of the pieces, fold the outline as you would a shaped card and glue the twine or ribbon in between the layers. I like to use hot glue for making banners because it is nice and sturdy and works best for adhering ribbon or twine to paper. It’s fun to add bits of ribbon tied to the banner as well.
