Why did Tech Support ask me to do THAT!?!

Ok, Rule #1.( At least for today.) There are no stupid questions! How do I know this? Because I make some of the BIGGEST and DUMBEST mistakes! A few weeks ago I was trying, at the last minute of course, to get a project done using my Inspiration. I designed the project and wanted to do a test before actually attempting to cut the paper I had chosen. I hit the “cut project” button in the software and nothing happened. No big deal, I can figure it out, right? NOT! I restarted the cutter, restarted the software, restarted my computer, unplugged and replugged everything in. Downloaded and reinstalled the updates. I did everything I could think of. Finally I gave up and called the office for help. (Now mind you, I hate doing this because I am, after all, supposed to know everything about our cutters.) They suggested I delete the registry. Ok, I hadn’t thought of that one. It didn’t work either. Grrr! As a sat there staring at the cutter the answer FINALLY occurred to me. Are you ready for this? I hadn’t loaded a mat into the cutter! I was going to “air cut” the project without a blade so I hadn’t loaded a mat in the Inspiration. Boy did I feel silly when I called the office back to confess. They were very gracious (Ok, my son Jeremy did laugh at me a little.) However, I have a feeling that Tech Support has added a footnote under ‘what to do when the cutter won’t cut’ that says to be sure and ask if a mat is loaded into the machine. Has anyone else had those “Duh” moments? Please share so that I can feel better!

I have had a lot of “Duh” moments myself. More than I want to admit! I think the worst is when I kept wrestling with my pressure settings trying to get it to cut only to find out I had forgotten to install a blade! Woops!

Okay here is my DUH moment. I have two PI’s and so when I am in the throws of preparing for class, I will usually have them both going. My laptop sits on the table and my PC monitor sits Above it….Just don’t ask. Anyway, I couldn’t get the darn thing to cut and was so frustrated. Only to figure out in the end. I was trying to cut to the WRONG machine! Total duh! I kept loading and reloading and rebooting that poor machine, only to realize that the poor thing was connected to the OTHER PC!!! Hope that makes you feel better!

Thanks for ALL the great laughs…..very happy to know I’m in good company.

But the ‘DUH’ moments seem to be coming so fast that the edges are blurring!

I must be well rounded because it would appear I have experienced all of the above. I am glad we are a sharing group.

Ok I am laughing very loudly at reading about “Christine’s” Duh moment…..Then I realize it is Chris! THE…Chris and I REALLY start laughing. He He! My duh moments are that I forget which software and which machine I am using…Pro or PI and then have to open the other software and copy/paste into the other one. Doh! I hate that!

I have found that TURNING the MACHINE ON, goes a LONG ways to having it work too…and of course, plugging it into the computer helps too…NOT that I have ever done that……*grin
