Make Your Own Paper Lace

Paper lace has to be one of my favorite inventions of all time. I love using them as overlays for my pages and there are just so many different designs and ways to use them that the ideas just keep coming! Many of you have already seen our Paper Lace CD (a personal favorite) and been inspired to create your own paper lace designs. But, making them yourself can prove to be a little trickier than you might expect! Thankfully I’ve made enough paper lace designs that I have it down to a science…well ok almost.

In the video I will show you how to create a paper lace like the one pictured here. As I’ve made more and more paper lace designs I’ve discovered a few tricks that make the whole designing process much easier. I start by splitting my page up in to 4 smaller squares which helps me tackle the rather daunting task of filling my entire page with designs much easier. Then I choose 4-6 designs (or just the same design in various shapes) and start filling up on of those smaller squares. I rotate and resize getting all of the pieces to overlap and fill up the space as much as possible. Then I group that design and make 3 copies of it to fill my page. After that, I get rid of the line guides and move my pieces so they overlap, and use WYSIWYG to join it all together. I think I have decided that WYSIWYG may just be the best tool ever!

There is lots more in the video and I will walk you through the whole process. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you! I never thought about making the lace in quarters. It makes SO much sense. It seems I never stop learning, the CraftRoom ladies are so smart!
