The Little Things

Our lives are full of big things and little things. The big things take all our time, the little things hold all the meaning.

A school supplies note, we have all had one in our hands at one time or another. Just another errand to run; another item on our to-do list. But these little things are the things memories are made of. This is what scrapbooking is all about, the little memories. This is also what makes the Pazzles Inspiration so suited to my scrapbooking, it is the one tool that makes my memories what they truly are; unique.

Recently, I was trying to come up with a really different way to document the advent of another school year. With 10 grandchildren in school I have a lot of first day pictures. I wanted something that was a time capsule of this time in their lives. I usually help with purchasing school supplies and as I looked over the list from Derek’s school, “inspiration” struck me! I would focus on the list and all the excitement school shopping creates when you are a little kid. Who doesn’t remember that new box of crayons, the pink pearl eraser and water colors AND the new backpack to put them in?

I wanted the backpack to be the focal point of the page. I found lots of clipart for backpacks online and found one that suited my needs. It was easily converted to cutting lines using auto trace. (Oh, how I love my Inspiration Studio Software!) I changed the pockets a little and added some pencils and scissors which I created by using the Draw Circle and Draw Rectangle tools. I also added stitching which I drew with a white gel pen and the Pazzles pen tool. I had so much fun with this project. In fact I have included the cutting file and the instructions for the page.

I made another one for my 12 year old granddaughter too. That one was a bit of a challenge because she wanted a “cool” backpack. In her opinion there is nothing cool in the clipart I found but I did find a photo on a shopping website that meets her approval. I used hand vectorization for that one and it turned out really cute! I know a lot of you want to try the hand tracing method but think it sounds hard. (Kind of like hand-sewing. LOL!) It really isn’t hard at all and only uses 2 tools. I created a video showing how I made her backpack. (See below to watch it.) Before you know it you will be making totally custom designs for your projects.

Remember the little things, they are what make our lives worthwhile. Your Inspiration will help you keep those little memories, just the way you remembered them.

This lesson will teach you how to create a custom cutting file by using only 2 tools to trace around a photo or graphic. Learn how to decide what parts of a photo to include in your design. You will also learn how to add accent lines to make the details stand out.

Chris, I too help out with school supplies for the grandkids….but never thought about scrapbooking the event….you are so right. This is a great idea. Really….it is about the simple pleasures in life. Those are the things that come back as we age…not the trips to Disney or the brand new car…it is the time that we spend sharing with our families that matters. Thanks for the tip!
