Pen Tool Fall Acorn Card

Acorn-Card-MelinB

Fall is such a beautiful season, with leaves changing color and the crisp, cool air. I created my card with thoughts of my years growing up in the northern part of the country.

When deciding how to make my card, I knew I wanted to work with the new Pazzles Pen Tool. I visited Klo’s recent classroom video on how to work with the new pen tool and watched one of the archived sessions. It got me off the ground and running in no time flat.

I used the Acorn cutting file for the main image on the card. I cut it out in patterned paper and Bazzill cardstock. I then created two “inline” layers using the outline tool in the software. One for cutting and one for drawing. I used the new pen tool and turned the inner most line into a dashed pen line with one click! I then used a font from my computer and drew the Happy Fall out with my pen. When watching Klo’s video, I learned how to “fill” my letters in so that the pen would “color” the whole letter for me and not just the outline! Next, I added in the Flourish Single Stroke design file from the library above and below the letters.

Once all my pen work was done, I simply changed out my pen tool for my blade and cut it out. I then used the leaves from the Leafy Border cutting file in the library and cut all my leaves. I inked them in different colors to give them some subtle color difference. I layered the acorn and leaves on top of a border strip using the Double Scallop and Lattice Border file. I added a little extra dimension by using some dimensional adhesive to the acorn. Finally I added some finishing touches by using some burlap cord and a large button for the center of the acorn top and then some pretty coordinating ribbon and some braided burlap cord to the border. I loved working with the new pen tool and the results it gave me. My pens have been dusted off and are now ready to go to work!

Beautiful card, Melin! You’ve inspired me to watch Klo’s video on filling letters. I have a method, but it doesn’t work well with small letters. Thank you!

Beautiful card. I’ve been using my new pen tool quite a bit recently. My next step, is trying to fill in the letters.
