Success Key Dock

Re-purpose a scrap board and some old keys for a handy and useful gift.  You can choose to make it and graduation gift and make it in your grad’s school colors, your grad’s favorite colors, colors to match their *new* car (wink wink) or anything you’d like!  For the background you can use decoupage as I did, or paint it or leave the natural wood (I think burlap over a dark colored paper or paint would look great, too)

This would also make a great gift for the car enthusiast in you life.

Supplies:
Scrap hardwood (approximately 12” x 12”), sanded smooth on the front (sometimes available free at your local hardware store lumber department)

Cardstock or scrapbook paper of your choice:
For the white letters, I used Neenah Bright White 65 lb. Premium Cardstock
For the black background, I used black smooth cardstock from the COLORBÖK 12” x 12” Solid-Dyed Core Premium Cardstock – Primary Stack
For the silver letters, I used toy packaging but you can purchase silver paper anywhere scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies are sold
Basic white or scrap 8.5” x 11” sheet of cardstock
Mod Podge Matte Sealer, Glue and Finish (you could use any Mod Podge sealer you like, such as Gloss, etc.)
Sponge Brush, or other brush of your choice
Sponge roller or Pazzles Mat Scraper
Acrylic Clear Sealer (such as Rust-Oleum Spray Enamel, Clear)
1-inch or smaller screws, 10 count (big enough to hold the hole in the key head)
Picture hangers (such as sawtooth or triangle picture hangers)
Wall picture hanger
Mini sticky notepads (for balancing Key Dock on the wall)
5 junk keys (sometimes your local hardware store will happily give you dud keys for free)
Drill, drill bit smaller than your screws, and screwdriver bit that fits the head of your screws
Duck Tape or Washi Tape, 3/4 inch, silver (or color of choice)

Optional Materials for Variants:
Spray Paint (such as Krylon Premium Metallic Copper Brilliance) in desired color(s) – for the keys
Nail polish in desired color(s) – for the keys
Latex, oil or spray paint or fabric dye – for the background
Wrapping, tissue or thin scrapbook paper for the background
Store-bought or DIY sanding block with fine grit sandpaper
