DIY Relax Bath Tray

I was inspired by a board leftover from a DIY desk project. This project is relatively quick and easy and can be made with new materials or modified to utilize materials you may have left over from other DIY projects or remodeling around your home. Using a sanded plywood board, some water based sealant, two drawer pulls, and some Pazzles Wall Vinyl or Pazzles Vinyl you can create a bath tray customized your way.

Use a Premade Tray or Make Your Own

The tray is 27 inch by 14 inch and fits across a standard tub resting on the long sides across the basin. You could make it slightly more narrow or more wide. You could make the relax title larger to fill the entire board using the 12 x 24 inch Pazzles Mat and the Pazzles Wall Vinyl; it could even be sizes so large that some of it disappears off the edges (enlarge and trim in the software). Another modification that would be fun is to drill holes for rope handles further in than the drawer pulls so that the knots in the underside are within vacant space below the tray over the tub basin; just measure the width of the tub basin near the end at which you want to use it and center that measurement on the board, drilling holes for water resistant rope of your choice. If you use a non-treated board, treat it with penetrating sealant after hammering the edges smooth and before adding the title and handles. Pre-drill the holes for the handles and add some sealant to the holes before screwing the drawer pull handles on. Countersinking the screws for the handles is necessary to avoid scratching the edges of your tub, however you can do a modification explained in the instructions which will also work. This project will take less than an hour, varying by how you customize.

Use in the Bath, on Your Desk, or Guest Bed!

This tray is great for holding your laptop or book, a candle, an essential oil diffuser reed vase, etc. while you relax in the tub. You can also use this as a lap desk while hanging out on the couch; for added comfort, prop it across your lap on a standard pillow. This tray works well as a vanity organizer that can take an unplugged curling iron while cooling (where the vinyl is not) or dresser-top organizer for placing a small potted plant or air plant, a jewelry box, or key/coin catch-all.
