Vectorization

InVue 2.3 brings a massive update to InVue’s vectorization capabilities. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the word or tools, vectorization is the process of turning an image composed of individual pixels into the line drawings (vectors) that InVue and other path based art programs use. The new vectorization process is broken in to two separate options, silhouette and full color vectorization.

Silhouettes

Use the two sliders in the new Adjust Silhouette window to create a silhouette based on your image.

The new silhouette function allows you to create custom silhouette of images and other black and white designs. When you select to create a silhouette from an image you will be presented with a window with a couple of sliders. The brightness slider allows you to adjust which colors will be treated as black, and which will be treated as white. Use this slider to adjust the silhouette until it looks right. The white filtering slider is used to help clean up your silhouette when using very low brightness values. Once you are happy with the silhouette click next. From this screen you can see your silhouette and the vectorization results by clicking the “Preview” button. For many images no additional adjustments will be necessary. However if necessary you can click the advanced button to make adjustments as necessary and preview your results. Once you are satisfied with the preview click “Finish” to place the vectorized silhouette on your page.

Full Color

The new Color Selection window has automatic color identification capabilities and the a dropper tool for manual color selection.

Full Color vectorization allows you to work with full color drawings and even some photos. The first step in the full color vectorization process is the color selection process. Here InVue will automatically attempt to identify the key colors in the image. You can adjust the Detected Colors slider up or down to set the number of key colors that InVue should identify. In addition you can use the dropper tool to add specific colors. Adjusting the slider or using the dropper tool will update the image preview. Once you are satisfied with the color selection clicking next will bring up the same vectorization window that comes up during Silhouette vectorization. Click preview to see the vectorization results. Note that after clicking preview you can use the remove small objects slider to remove small artifacts. In addition you can use the wireframe option to further analyze the results.
The Vectorize Image window allows you to preview vectorization results, tweak settings, view a wireframe representation, and remove small artifacts.
