The Gift of Ideas Right in Your Mailbox

It is that time of year again and I love the little gifts that are already arriving! My mailbox is flooded with flyers, catalogs and advertisements. I used to look at them as an annoyance, something to toss in the trash before even looking at them. Since I have my Inspiration I look at them in a completely different way. I actually look forward to their arrival this time of year. They bring me the gift of ideas.

I’m not suggesting that you spend money on items from the catalog. But I do suggest you take the time to look through them before you toss those catalogs and flyers away. Those catalogs hold the key to new designs for your projects. In just a quick glance of a catalog, I found new flourishes, fun snowmen, and elegant frames. I get ideas for new ways to compose my designs, what color combinations are popular this year (bright pink and green) and inspiration for homemade gifts.

The catalogs that feature cards give me new ideas for page and card layouts plus new phrases and sayings. The food catalogs give me ideas for boxes and packaging. (I will confess that I have actually bought some treats just for the box!)There is such a wealth of possibilities that you will never be able to make them all in one season.

I actually have a little mini photo album that I bought at the dollar store. I clip out and save the ideas I find in the catalogs. There have been many times when those ideas have saved me from the creativity “Blahs” that seem to affect all of us once in a while.

Don’t forget the newspaper either. With Black Friday shopping just a few days away, advertisements literally spill out of mine. The little love birds cutting file that I am sharing with you came from a shopping guide in my local newspaper. I thought they were too cute and with a few changes they can be used for any season of the year.

Finally, I want to wish all of you’re a Blessed and Happy Thanksgiving., You have been a true blessing to all of us here at Pazzles.

Chris

I’m always clipping thing out of books and papers, for ideas. I just got a cat that I need to work on. I also did a deer head for cutting out of vinyl for my brother. I may share that for all those girls out there who husband that love to hunt.

LOL….Chris and Brenda….you are both describing the old fashioned scrapbook. They were tidbits of things that the owner liked in life…a reflection of their tastes. I say…back to the basics…nice idea. Love those birds too. I can see them under mistletoe. 🙂

This is so funny, on the 25th anniversary trip with my husband, we had a paper that we were looking through and I found some really cute things in the ads and saved them to make files from. Love the timing, what a great article.
