Mason Jar Paper Snow Globes

Mason Jar Snow Globes Christmas Tree and Nativity Scene
Mason Jar Snow Globe Christmas Tree

Two of the most popular trends this season are mason jars and snow globes. I’ve combined both for today’s 15 minute project and made a waterless paper snow globe.

The project starts with a wide mouth quart mason jar. I assembled all the pieces of each scene and adhered them to the bottom inside of the lid so that the scene will be upside down when the lid is placed on the jar. I sprinkled some fake snow into the bottom of the jar and carefully placed on the lid with the scene glued onto it. After I screwed the lid onto the jar, I flipped the jar upside down to let the snow fall onto the winter scene I had created. Some ribbons and twine finish off this fun project.

As for the paper parts of the snow globe , I created two separate winter scenes. The first is a nativity using the Nativity Scene cutting file found in the Holidays > Christmas category. I cut out one set and then mirrored it and cut out an additional set. The two sets are then adhered back to back with foam mounting tape in between. The two-sided star was added to a skewer to raise it above the rest of the pieces.

The second jar features the tree from our Luminary Village, which I cut out of patterned paper and sprinkled with glitter. I used the same technique of mirroring and adhering together two sets of the image with foam mounting tape to make a two-sided lightpost using the Lightpost Sign cutting file found in Buildings and Fences. I simply cut off the attached sign and instead placed a paper wreath around the lightpost. The Holly Wreath is from the Holidays > Christmas album.

Customize these any way you would like.  The possibilities are endless with 3000+ cutting files to choose from. I’m looking forward to seeing some of these in the Craft Room Albums.

Take one, dont use spray glue to glitter outside of the tree as it covers the whole thing and now I cant see the paper underneath. So cut No.2 underway.

Valerie-I just used liquid Tombo Mono and painted it onto the tree with a paintbrush to hold the glitter.

I have been wanting to make snow globes for ages. I have really wanted to make a large snow globe for my centrepiece at my annual Christmas party. I just can’t find a large enough glass jar. I am making smaller ones now and displaying them together in the centre of the table. Thanks for the suggestions

Deborah-what about using an upside down goldfish bowl? You could made a chipboard or paper bas/lid for it.
