Tea Light Cake

Do you like to give a little cupcake to friends or co-workers for their special days?  What if they are watching their calories or diabetic?  This Tea Light Cake is the perfect choice and just so fun.

The first thing I did is get a tape measure and do a little measuring of the diameter, height and width of the tealight.  Don’t forget to measure the width of the flame. I do this for each different style because not all tea lights are the same size.  I then went to the Pazzles Craft Room Library and started looking for Borders and Round Frames.

For the pieces around the outside, I used the Zig Zag Ribbon and the Eyelet Border files which are found under Decorative>Borders and Ribbons.  Then using the Transformation Tools (found under Tools>Transformation>Width), I sized the pieces to 5 inches, which was the size for this particular tea light.  (If you need more information on resizing images, you can watch the video,  How to Resize Images) Keep in mind as you are looking at the borders that they are generally 12 inches, so you will need to take into account the intricacy of the design as it is made smaller.

For the top of the cake, I used one of the pieces from the Fancy Circle Frame file which is under Decorative> Frames.  I created a 1.40″ circle to use as a guide to make the piece the right size for the top for my tea light.  Then I added a small circle to go around the flame and added small slits to it so that it would fit easily over the flame and lay nicely.  If you are unsure how to do this, go watch the archived Klo’s Classroom Video from December 23 and 24. (I recommend you watch the Monday Morning one if you are strapped for time)

For the cake platter, I used the Round Doilie file, found in Decorative> Frames.  You could easily add layers to this to really give it a fun look.

I think it would also be fun to add twirled flowers, beads, etc to make this really fun.  You could also take a cupcake box and shrink it down for a mini box to present it in.  I hope you enjoy this! I have been having so much fun with the tea lights and I look forward to seeing what wonderful and creative things you do.  Please be sure to share them in the Pazzles Craft Room Albums, I love seeing what you do.

~Klo

Thanks Klo, really love this idea with the tealights. Now that you have peaked my imagination, my wheels are turning to see what other goodies I can come up with tealights.
