In the next few months we will be highlighting different styles in our Goodie Bag posts. We’ll identify several of the most popular styles and help you to discover your own personal style. We’ll offer tips to make your style stand out and maybe inspire you to step outside your comfort zone and try something new.
Today we are discussing the modern graphic style which features crisp clean images, lots of white space and a side of cute.
Colors: The Modern Graphic style is versatile when it comes to selecting colors. Any colors can be used, but this style is a great way to use bright, bold colors in your design. Pairing those bright colors with the contrast of black and white makes the bright colors more vibrant. This style is also a great way to try out unique and trendy color palettes.
Design: Modern Graphic is the epitome of simple, uncluttered design. It is a single focal point with sharp defined edges and lots of white space. And remember white space is simply a design term for purposefully leaving a large empty space in your design. It doesn’t necessarily need to be actually white. When it comes to sentiments, use simple modern fonts and no frills wording. This is also a great chance to pair clever puns with cute images.
Papers: Again, this is a great style to use your bright papers with. You can also look for papers with a repeating geometric design such as circles, diamonds or hexagons. Modern Graphic is a die cutters dream because this style also works well with cardstock-only designs. Simply create a focal point die-cut image with cardstock, add a cute sentiment and you have a fast, adorable card.
Cutting Files: Any bold stand-alone image will work well as a focal point such as Wise Owl or Bike With Basket of Hearts. Or you can go with the cute factor like any of our Fictional Characters, animals like this Turtle, or this Whale. Simple silhouettes also make great focal points such as this Bride Profile or this Windmill. Don’t forget that large sentiments alone such as Love U Tag or Baby Tags can also make for a beautiful modern graphic card.
