Paris Shutter Card

Gatefold Birthday Card
I adore making cards–it’s my thing! I really love making something extra special for someone to help make their day memorable.
This card was made for a very special young lady who just turned 9. She’s an old soul, and a delightful young lady. She has an interest in all things Paris, so deciding on the theme was easy.
It’s no secret the Fun Folds II Collection is one of my absolute favourites and a ‘go to’ file. This particular file, the Shutter Card, along with the Vintage Frame is something I’ve used before. This time it’s different. It’s more heavily embellished and the paper is highly patterned.
Once the card base and patterned pieces are cut, the fun begins in assembling and playing with pieces to come up with the finished design. I rarely know what my finished product is going to look like and so I play with embellishments and colours and question myself for any number of reasons. I change my mind a lot! It’s all part of the creative process.
Collections like Kaisercraft’s Bonjour paper stack make coordinating papers really easy. They release coordinating ‘collectables’ which are die cut shapes to complement the coordinating papers.
I built my card up in layers to make it extra special. Lace, pearls, flowers, ribbon and bows – all things girly to make a shabby chic card.
Foam squares or dots help to make your project really stand out. It’s amazing what a difference raised elements can make to a card, compared to flat ones.
I hope I have inspired you to have a go at making a fancy card yourself. The look of joy on someone’s face when they open it up is worth the extra work!
~Belle
