Engraving Tool: Autumn Wall Hanging

Autumn Wall Hanging with Miss Kate Cuttabales Owl and Pazzles Engraving Tooll

I’ve lived in a few places while in the Air Force and I have to say that fall in Georgia is the best I’ve seen. The colors are just beautiful, but green is still present, which is one of my favorite colors.

For this project I used an old canvas frame. I took the fabric off and painted the frame black. I must admit I couldn’t decide what color I wanted to make the frame, but the black does make the copper metal pop. The frame I used is approximately 11” x 14” from side to side and top to bottom.

The first thing I did was decide what objects to use so I chose four Pazzles Craft Room files to make a file for the project. The file I created has all the pieces you need, which includes the template for the background paper you will need if you use the same size frame with the same cut out in the middle of it. For my frame I cut out a 12” x 9” piece on Olive cardstock.

I chose to print and cut the MK Fall Owl file because I didn’t have all the paper colors I needed. The Autumn Harvest 3 Color Palette helped a lot with that. In the file I created, you’ll see a black base of the owl. I used this to put behind the owl so I could do a closer print and cut (no white border).

After I cut the owl I stamped it with the Versamark Clear Inkpad and then put the clear embossing powder on it and heated it up with my embossing heat tool. I also used the black base of the owl to cut the owl from .022 chipboard to make it sturdier. I put chipboard behind the branch and the leaves as well.

The Branch and Leaves are cut from a brownish cardstock. I ran it through my Sizzix Texture Boutique embossing machine using the oriental theme embossing folder to get the texture on top. After that, I put Olive Pastel fluid chalk ink on top. I placed the owl, branch and leaves down using pop dots.

The copper metal is what I used for the Autumn embellishment. This metal is thin and easy to cut using the InVue. I attached the word Autumn to the top of a square box and welded them together. I used the airbrush paint to slightly airbrush a part of a Pazzles Flower Medallion design onto it. I engraved Leaves from the Craft Room files onto the copper. I placed the whole thing onto the background with the pop dots.

Before I placed any of the embellishments onto the background I made a stencil of the Flower Medallion from the Craft Room. I didn’t use the whole design, just the middle of the medallion. I airbrushed that part onto the background, on top of the copper, and on four sides of the frame.

The bottom copper embellishments are from B’Sue Boutiques. I attached the bracelet bar to the back of the frame using E-6000 glue. I used a headpin to hold the bracelet bar to the back of the frame and attached the charms to the bar with jump rings. E-6000 is good glue for metal, but it should sit overnight for a strong hold. I also attached the copper leaves to the frame with E-6000 and let it sit overnight.

I used suede lace (or so it’s called) to attach to the back of the frame so I could hang it on the wall. I used a few staples to hold it on to the back.
This project didn’t take a long time. The most time consuming part was trying to figure out the colors I wanted to use for the owl. After that, it was a quick assembly. The airbrushing took less than couple of minutes.
