DIY Holiday Reversible Decor Blocks
I was inspired to make this project by the small sturdy boxes we had from some Christmas gifts, my general habit of trying to usefully repurpose items, and by the upcoming holidays Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day. We are going to hang this on our wall but it would also work well on a tabletop, shelf, or desk. It would be a fun daycare or elementary school decoration as well as an inexpensive and fun-to-put-together holiday decor item for the home. You can also put the Valentine decorations on one side and St. Patrick’s Day on the other to make some reversible blocks too!
Resize to Fit Any Box
It’s about 9 by 9 inches times three boxes but could be resized to fit about any size box as long as the individual pieces of the embellishments can still be cut out of a 12 by 12-inch piece of cardstock.
Use Designs on Pillows, Shirts, and Scrapbook Pages Too!
Different papers could be substituted if desired, and this project would be great made into a set of pillows or pillow covers with heat transfer vinyl. Adapt it to shirts as well, or as part of a scrapbook page. Add a clothespin to the top to grip a 4 by 6 photo on top of each and gift it to the grandparents with candid pictures of their grandkids – you could do a photo shoot for Valentine’s Day with small cut paper hearts and Xs and Os that they throw in the air as you snap a shot, or you could capture their faces as they blow kisses for their grandparents, especially if they aren’t able to visit on the holiday.
This project should take about 30 to 40 minutes to assemble (not including the photoshoot *wink*).
Supplies:
Three thin boxes – approximately 9 by 9 by 2.75 inches
Kraft wrapping paper
Cardstock in various colors
Crafter’s tape or other non-wrinkling adhesive for paper
Double sided tape
Optional: 2.5 inch wide ribbon for edging and hanging each box
