Upcycled Netting from a Turkey or Ham Creates A Lovely Wreath
Pretty much all the time creative gears turn as I am looking at regular, everyday items because I see everything as potential materials for design. We recently cooked and saved ahead a whole turkey that we got a great deal on after Christmas and the netting it was wrapped in is a great, free craft item. One day recently I was going through my stash of crafting items and the little flowers I had bought for another project inspired me to join them with the turkey netting handle and in a few minutes, I had created a mini wreath!
Use Pre-fab Pressboard Letters
I had also seen a cute sign made of many little pallets and some pre-fab pressboard letters that spelled HOME and thought this wreath was the perfect “O” for a smaller version, and, with Easter and Spring coming as well as the need to have hope during a pandemic, the idea came to make it a sign of HOPE. So instead of the pre-fab board, I created my own letters and used my Pazzles to get just what I wanted.
Customize to Any Message Such as “Hope” or “Home”
The file includes both a P and an M so there is a choice to have hope or home. Similar to my Welcome Seasonal Interchangeable Sign, two magnets could be added at the top and bottom of the wreath and in corresponding locations on the pallet sign to accommodate other forms of the O for other times of the year, including wood designs that can be purchased unfinished or painted at most any craft store, such as hearts, Christmas ornaments, suns, etc.
Mini Palette Sign Base from Dollar Store
This project is made from two mini pallets from the Dollar Tree which are 4 by 6 inches so the total sign is 4 by 12 inches, excluding the ribbon hanger. This would become an excellent photo holder with the additional photos taped to the back and hanging off of the bottom of the sign. Strong glue dots could be used to adhere the wreath in place instead of the hot glue or E6000. And the instructions include other ways to complete the wreath.
This project should take experienced crafters about 20 minutes.
Supplies:
Hot glue gun & Hot glue stick
Heavy duty scissors
Approximately 3 inch diameter pre-made mini wreath, OR, make per instructions
Two 4 by 6 inch mini pallets from Dollar Tree
A wood craft stick (less than ¾ inch wide so it is more narrow than the pallet boards)
Cardstock paper pieces 4 by 4 inch in coordinating colors (used here Recollections Blue Ombre)
Dimensional foam stickers (0.25 inch squares or similar)
20 inches of ¼ inch grosgrain ribbon – white
About 16 to 18 inches of ⅝ inch white grosgrain ribbon
