Zig Zag Stitch Card

While perusing the different Scrapbook and Cardmaking magazines, I noticed that using a sewing machine to stitch around paper is really popular. In my past life, aka Before Pazzles, I did a lot of sewing, so I love this look. However, I don’t have room to keep my sewing machine up and I hate hauling it out for a little project. I have already been using the fabulous Pazzles Pen Tool for stitched or dashed lines on my projects. But I wondered; could I make my project look like zig zag stiching that is joining 2 pieces of paper together?

It took a little experimenting but I did figure it out! It is so pretty and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. You can do this technique with a single color of paper by simply adding zig zag pen lines over your cutting line. You can also cut out different colors of paper and make it look like they are patchwork joined with stitching. However, you need to draw and cut the project 2 times (or 3 or 4 depending on the look you want) and then swap the pieces.

The swapping of pieces is where it gets tricky. The first time I did this it took me an hour to figure out where each piece belonged. I took everything off of the cutting mat and didn’t pay attention to the positions of the piece! Now, I know better. Leave everything on the mat and move the pieces around there.

Watch the tutorial to see how it is done. Then try it yourself and share your creations with us by posting in the Craft Room. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

PS- Next week, I’ll show you how I made the flowers for these 3 cards. 😉

Create the illusion of zig zag stitching on a card or scrapbook page easily with the Pazzles Pen Tool. In this tutorial you will learn how to set up a project to add zig zag stitiching overlapping 2 independent pieces of paper. Learn how to set up the cutting mat with 4 different colors of paper and  how to rearrange the pieces to make the patchwork. You should already be familiar with how to use the Pen Tool before watching this video.

I agree with you…. It is hard to bring out the big heavy sewing machine to do a little job. Thank you for showing us how to do it with the PI. It’s amazing what we can do with out machines and some imagination…Thanks again!

Very nice! I love the stitching effect, and never would have figured out how to do it with my Pazzles.
    Thanks!
