We all know that we should replace our cutting Blades and Mats but were you aware that you should replace the Cutting Strip when it is worn out? Have you seen an Inspiration that looks like this one? Maybe it is your own cutter that looks this way. If it does, you are definitely overdue for a new Cutting Strip.
The cutting strip has an important job to do. It provides a hard surface for the blade to push against. When the cutting strip lifts or ripples, the blade cannot cut smoothly and you will notice that the cutting becomes uneven.
Also, the Cutting Strip is held firmly in place by a strip of special tape. Over time the tape will wear out. The mat is constantly rubbing against it, catching the edge. As the tape tears and frays, dirt and adhesive collects under it, making it look dirty. The rougher and more frayed the tape is, the more likely it will slow down the movement of the mat. This can cause some distortion while cutting.
Now that you know what an important role the cutting strip plays, you will want to get that ugly one of yours replaced, pronto! It is part of routine maintenance when you send your cutter into Pazzles. Recently, we started selling the Cut Strip Replacement Kit in the Craft Room store. It really isn’t hard to replace and I am sure Pete is more than willing to give up that job. 🙂 I have created a short video showing you how easy it is to change the cutting strip. Soon your Inspiration will look good-as-new, like the one on the left.
By the way, that ugly Cut Strip in the picture? It belongs to our very own Tatum! I think I might have to sneak over to her desk one day and change it for her.
It’s true, that awful looking cut strip is mine. In defense of myself, I have to say that a machine that dirty is well loved. On the flip side of things, I like the idea of getting an Inspiration makeover… Chris, you know where to find my cutter! 🙂
I didn’t know that there is a tape that covers the cutting strip. I bought my Pazzles new and never had a tape over the cutting strip. Is this tape important? I don’t seem to have any problems and I use my Pazzles everyday. I do clean the strip occasionally if there is any build-up with undo.
Linda, if you have never had tape over the cut strip, you should call into the office and have them send you a tape strip.
There appears to be a problem with the video clip it does not come up just a black screen or is it only me?
Sheila, try one of the lower resolution videos or just wait a bit longer for the video to appear. Sometimes it can just be a matter of traffic on the server at the time you tried to watch it.
It looks like you have taken the cutting blade out of the carriage before starting this procedure. Are there any other preliminary steps?
Thanks for the video. I have been worried about my ugly looking strip for a while. I will definately replace it.
Phyllis, be sure to turn off the cutter and remove the power cord and the usb cord from the back of the Inspiration.
