Vinyl Easter Egg Stickers

Do you remember making colored Easter Eggs as a child? It seemed like magic when you dipped the white egg into the colored water. I especially loved mixing colors to see what I would get. As an adult I realized how much patience my mother had—egg coloring can be messy! I tried to follow her example with my own children and we decorated eggs well into their teen years. Now it is my grandchildren’s turn to discover the magic.

Although there are all kinds of beautiful colored plastic eggs available in the stores, I still want to do it the traditional way. Of course, I do want to add a little ‘Pazzles flair’ to the process. Remember the magic crayon that came in the kits? They still are in the kits plus there are stickers to decorate the eggs. The problem with the crayon is that you can never see what you are drawing. I was always so disappointed when my lines did not line up or my heart looked like a blob.

This year I decided to try making vinyl stickers for the eggs. They would be a kind of mask that would prevent color from getting on the area of the egg underneath it. Of course, I gathered my little assistants for testing my idea. I cut small shapes and borders from vinyl and we stuck them to the eggs before dipping in the color. I am happy to say it worked beautifully. My grandkids were thrilled and were very disappointed that I only had a dozen eggs. I have promised that we will do more eggs closer to Easter.

Be sure to download the PDF of instructions below. I have also included the cutting file for my stickers but I am sure you will have your own ideas. I plan to cut the kid’s names next time so that they will have some eggs that are exclusively their own.
