Hot mess canvases are so fun because you get to break a lot of the traditional rules of
painting. The messier, the better which is why they are called a hot mess canvas! Just pick out a few colors and get to painting, the results speak for themselves and this technique has so many applications! Makes for a great gift too!
I chose to make a “cheeky” sign for my bathroom and I have included the design in the download below. You can make these signs for any room or occasion though. Try shades of green and for Christmas, or oranges and blacks for Halloween. I’m instantly in love with the possibilities.
I have included detailed step-by-step instructions with pictures in the download but the basic idea is that you are doing a stencil, but in reverse. Paint your canvas with multiple colors, put your vinyl design over top, and then paint with white paint. Peel away the vinyl to reveal your design! It’s very simple but there are a few important tips that will get the look just right so make sure to take a peek at those instructions!
