DIY Grilling Hook Sign for Outdoors
My friends gave away a bunch of aged wood pieces from their replaced fence which have inspired all sorts of fun home decor ideas, such as my Welcome Seasonal Interchangeable Sign, this project, and another coming soon. We’re setting up a new outdoor grilling area with an outdoor fireplace and I thought it would be both fun and functional to have a place to hang grilling tools for making summer meals.
Durable and Simple Supplies
This project uses a piece of wood about 11” x 3.25” x .25”, a twisted handle from a gift or take-out bag, colored cardstock, ⅞ “ white vinyl cup hooks, heavy duty staples, and Outdoor Mod Podge, and it can be resized or just placed on a larger piece of wood at its original size. If you don’t have a take-out bag handle there are many other picture-hanging hooks that could be used as well as twine, and screws or glue would do fine if you haven’t any staples. The wood could be painted first if so desired, but using only the Outdoor Mod Podge works well.
Three Different Variations
I included elements in the file to make three versions that work for the Independence Day holiday in the US with blue stars, or for the summery grilling season in general with watermelons, and you could certainly choose other elements such as sunglasses or flowers from the Pazzles Craft Room Library. Using the Outdoor Mod Podge to both adhere the elements and seal the project makes it able to safely decorate a covered outdoor area such as the house siding at your back porch or deck. The three hooks will hold a flipper, tongs, and scissors handy near your grill so you can grill like a boss! Enjoy your outdoor cookin’.
11” x 3.25” x .25” weathered board (hardware stores may have miscuts or trimmed off boards that could be diy weathered)
a twisted paper or vinyl/plastic handle from a gift or take-out bag
Red, white, and blue colored cardstock (larger than the elements – a good use of generous scraps)
⅞ “ white vinyl cup hooks
heavy duty staples for staple gun
Outdoor Mod Podge
Optional: latex or acrylic paint
