Color Fill and Circles

3242158I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my email at whatsup@pazzles.com. I received some really great questions that I’m eager to get to in the weeks ahead. However, I promised to respond to Vickie Kee’s question below since this was not only a great topic, but something I’ve been asked about in the past. This just goes to show that there’s a lot of people out there with the same question, so don’t be afraid to ask!! Keep the emails coming, I look forward reading all of them!

I have done all of the updates…even took the program off and uploaded again and updated again (was having some technical problems)…and lately, I have noticed that when I make a circle, it forms perfectly….but as I continue making my designs, and try to add color to the circles, sometimes…though not consistently…I can’t add color. I have found out that the reason is because the circle is not connected or welded. I have to connect it and then the program will allow color. Now, this is fine if it is just a few circles. But, sometimes, I have multiplied circles and they all had color initially, but then suddenly the color is gone and they are all open. Is there way to find this out before I multiply so that I can avoid having to close each and every one of them?

This was such a great question. Recently for the Chinese New Year made about twenty fortune cookies; thanks Sandy Firestone for your wonderful creation, and the inspiration you gave me by posting your project to the gallery. These were such a huge hit family game night! While I created perfect circles by holding the shift key down on my keyboard, I too wanted to fill them in with color. I filled each one of my perfect circles in with the color pink and then grouped my project. The next thing I knew, I had an open path at the top of each circle and my color fill was gone! Unfortunately, at this time we do not have a remedy for this, but the way to avoid it in the future is by making sure that anytime you have perfect circles on your page, do not group the image. Grouping the image will put an open path and as a result you will lose the color fill. You will not have this problem if you are working with imperfect circles, and or ovals. However, perfectly symmetrical circles created using the shift key on your keyboard will have this happen. I hope that by knowing which shapes have this problem and how to avoid it, that it will help make things easier when you create your next project.

Thanks, Tatum, for explaining how to work around the circle issue. Perhaps the open path issue is why circles don’t always cut correctly. Do you know if these circle issues will be resolved in the new 2010 version of the software when it is released?

Unfortunately there just isn’t a fix for this in the upcoming software either. I’m happy to hear that the post was helpful! 🙂
