Preparing Your Embossing Mat

Embossing-MatMichelle’s beautiful Embossed Snowflake Tags have inspired a lot of our Pazzles peeps to try their own embossing projects. The Pazzles embossing tool was one of the first tools I invented for our electronic die cutters and it remains a favorite to this day. The embossing mat is the key to getting a beautiful impression. You can make it work better and last longer by spending time to prep it correctly.

The embossing mat is made with a plush surface that allows for embossing and cutting on the same mat. It comes with a slick, coated cover which needs to have a 12″ x 12″ opening cut in it. This will help you place the material you want to emboss in the correct position. The plush on the mat has an adhesive layer over it and you need to make sure it is adhered well to the plush before you cut.

Finally, you need to keep the mat protected between uses. I have made step by step visual instructions for you below. You can even print them out and keep them handy if you like. I hope to see your beautiful embossed projects in the Craft Room Gallery very soon!!

Chris, my cats end up being part of my paper creations whether I want them to or not because their hair is everywhere. Do you have any suggestions for cleaning the embossing mat? Thank you!

Beverly, your comment gave me a good laugh! Cats do have a way of getting in the middle of everything!

You could pat a bit of Scotch tape or some blue painters tape on the mat to pick up the hairs. I don’t recommend anything stronger than that or you might pull the adhesive off of the plush mat. You shouldn’t wash the mat, obviously, because the backing is chipboard.

Other than that the only thing I can think of to de-hair your mat is to use tweezers to pluck it off hair by hair. 🙂

I have been putting off embossing…I am afraid:-) I don’t understand how you can cut on the same mat. Won’t it cut through the plush? Is there a video demo any where?
