Easy DIY Halloween Lantern
We had a Halloween decor lantern that had to go to the toys and decor graveyard, so when I saw a reasonably priced lantern while at the craft store for another project I was inspired to create a replacement.
A Quick Halloween Makeover for Existing Decor
The beauty of this project is twofold: it’s super quick and it’s not permanent. This project only takes a few minutes to cut and assemble and you can disassemble it after the holiday and save the pieces for next year, using the lantern as it came or dressing it up in some other way. It can be made with just about any lantern you like, and either a flameless pillar candle or a string of fairy lights (just tuck the battery pack up into the lid area and tape to hold in place). If you can’t find a lantern you like, you could also create your own using this file or even this file from the Pazzles Craft Room.
Customize the Size and Add Spooky Sayings
The lantern I used is about 15.75 inches tall by about 5.91 inches in the other two directions. You can resize the ghosts to fit any lantern. You could do these out of vinyl instead of cardstock and stick them onto the windows. Make it creepy and make it into a lantern with a curse that has someone magically trapped inside by adding a speech bubble (available in the Pazzles Craft Room Library) saying “Free Me” or “Let Me Out!!!”. You can also add bats and other Halloween images.
Use your imagination and have fun!
