DIY Embellishments: Patchwork Paper Pieces

I keep thinking about making a quilt. I've been looking at quilt patterns as a way to give myself a pep talk and convince myself that I can actually do it. Quilt patterns are kind of amazing. When you look at a finished block you see a butterfly, but when you look really close you see a series of triangles and squares that make up that butterfly. It fascinates me! To wrap up this week of DIY embellishments I've created a set of eight patchwork inspired embellishment pieces. One of the Design Team Members mentioned having difficulty with this assignment because to her, everything she creates with her Inspiration is an embellishment, which is very true. The idea behind this week is to have a bit of a cutting binge and make some embellishments ahead of time to have on hand. We wanted to encourage you to look at those packages of embellishments at the store and instead of buying them, make your own.

Tech Bytes Cutting Collection: WPC, ...

Whether you are a fan of the latest and greatest smart phone, or still embracing the floppy disk, this technology inspired collection has it all. We've made sure to include something for every type of project in this Tech Bytes Cutting Collection. If you are a card maker, scrapbooker, or lover of dimensional boxes and projects, you'll find something that will delight your inner geek. Make something special for the computer whisperer in your life. The title in this collection would be fun for t-shirt designs when cut out of Pazzles Iron-On Material.

Candy Bowties

Candy Filled Bow Ties for ...

My dad is a hard man to give gifts to. He really doesn't have any hobbies besides reading and attending all of his grand kids sporting events. Nothing themed ever fits the bill for his gifts. He doesn't hunt, fish, golf or do any of the other manly things fathers do. As a result he usually gets a new book or two and a treat for every major holiday. I've learned you really can't go wrong with candy. And although my dad doesn't wear bow ties either, this year he's getting his candy with a bit of style. There are two versions of today's project. The first is a simple tag to attach to a bag of candy. I've included tags sized for both the larger bags of candy and the individual sized bags.

May Challenge Reminder

What have you been inspired by this month? Our May challenge is all about using the world around you as inspiration. You can find details about this month's challenge here. As part of this month's challenge you will need to post both the inspiration piece and the finished piece. Today we have some challenge inspiration from the two newest design team members, Belle Donaghey and Krista Petersen-Hong. They are sharing photos of their inspiration as well as the finished project. Belle was inspired by her grandfather's cap. She created a layout about him that was inspired by his life and the colors of the cap.

Cut And Paste Sketches: Scallop ...

I have some tiny little tag stickers that I bought years ago. The company was going out of business and I wanted to make sure I never ran out, so I bought several packages. These little sticker tags are the cutest things. Most of them are only about 1/2" tall and they look aged and vintage. This card was inspired by the sticker tags. Cut out your own tags and make them the centerpiece of your card.

Paper Ice Cream Truck Box ...

Your kids might be watching TV or in the middle of a meal, but as soon as they hear the music of an ice cream truck they drop everything and go running to find it. I remember doing the same thing when I was little. It was a thrill to chase that truck down the street whether I had any money or not. With fond memories of the ice cream truck of her childhood, Klo created an adorable little Ice Cream Truck Box that opens up on top to hold sweet treats.

May Guest Designer: Adeline Brill

Please help us welcome our special Pazzles Guest Designer this month: Adeline Brill! My husband and I recently painted several rooms in our home.  While painting each room and using our ‘vintage’ ladders, I was inspired to document the life of these two ladders. My go-to source for design ideas is the Pazzles Craft Room. My first choice is the Cut and Paste Sketches and I selected the sketch,  A Day in the Life. I welded one of the photo mats to create the popular Polaroid frame and then sized them to fit my three photos. I smudged them with chalk to create the splotches of paint on the ladders. For the title of the page I used the Painted Title Block and added the lettering using the Pen Tool.

Paper Umbrella Shower Favors

This project is perfectly suited for today, because it is pouring rain outside in Kuna, Idaho. While these are intended for a bridal shower or baby shower, you can celebrate a rainy day as well! Each of these little umbrellas can hold treats. Leave them on the table for guests to enjoy at the party, or wrap them up in cellophane for take home favors. You can adapt these to hold cupcakes as well by creating the umbrella handle around a toothpick and sticking it in the top of the cupcake.

Cut and Paste Sketches: Take ...

Making boy layouts is always a bit of a challenge for me. I just seem to freeze up when I can't use flowers on a page. Today's layout is perfect for a boy or a girl and can be adapted to any theme. Use the idea behind this layout to create other themed layouts. For example you could do a 3rd birthday layout by adding 3's in various fonts and sizes. Have fun creating something fun!

This watering can vase makes just the spot and looks beautiful as a table centerpiece. Tuck your paper flowers inside for a gift, or place a jar in the middle of it and fill it with real flowers.

Build A Bouquet: Lily of ...

It’s Build A Bouquet week here on the blog. All this week we are sharing dimensional paper flowers. A few designs will be featured each day and by the end of the week you will have a full bouquet perfect for Mother’s Day festivities. Design Team member Heidi Edwards is joining me today as we build our bouquet. She created this beautiful Lily of the Valley, which is perfect for Easter too, by the way! I'm excited to create this bouquet for my mom for Mother's Day. I think sometimes as paper crafters we take for granted how cool it is to make a dimensional object out of paper. People not involved in this paper world are absolutely blown away when they see what we can make out of a flat piece of paper. Give a bouquet away to someone and let them think you are a paper magician!

Build A Bouquet: Tiger Lily ...

We have a fun surprise for you! It's Build A Bouquet week here on the blog. All this week we are sharing dimensional paper flowers. A few designs will be featured each day and by the end of the week you will have a full bouquet perfect for Mother's Day festivities. We've had fun coming up with these designs and hope you will love them. It's always amazing to me that a flat piece of paper can become something amazing, so let's get started. Tiger Lily
